Well, there's not too much to say about Amsterdam since everyone was there. I was definitely glad to get away for the weekend since my host family is kind of nuts. Although I was also glad to get back because everything was so hectic.
There was a lot more exercise involved in traveling than I had thought. Our train to Amsterdam was late and we pretty much sprinted from one platform to the other, only to see our next train pull away. The way out of Amsterdam also required running through the Red Light District in order to catch the train to Bruges. And of course, the train to Bruges somehow got delayed and our hostel reservation had been given away.
We decided to bike to the North Sea, but ran out of time about 2 kilometers away. Then of course it got real windy and started raining, as we were hurrying back to Bruges to get back to Dusseldorf. I am pretty impressed at us for biking over 30 miles (about 55 km) in about two hours though.
So far my life abroad has pretty much been a series of unfortunate events, which oddly enough hasn't bothered me too much - except for my digital camera problem.
