Quiet weekend in Dusseldorf
Doug and I made the decision to stay in dusseldorf this weekend after a tiring and expensive weekend just a week ago. Friday was very low-key, with us just wondering around the streets at about 11 at night. In addition, it also proved to be the most productive day of this trip so far. We were able to book hostels for the upcoming two weekend excursions, to Interlaken and Coppenhagen respectivley, and secure seats on trains to get there. Saturday turned out to be less productive but loads more fun. We accopmanied our host mom and here friend, both who speak no english, to the Dusseldorf fair. When we arrived, the size of the rides and the crowd caught us both offguard. It seemed as if anyone living within 50 miles decided to come out. We entered and decided to take a lap around to get a bearing on where the different rides/bars are located. After completing only a half a lap in thirty minutes, we realied we were thirsty and ducked in to one of the many bars lining the outside of the fair. Our host mom and her friend joined us and bought the first round. I offered to pay, but she replied that the next round was on me (she didnt actually say this, but I go the message). As our first beer drew to a close I noticed her paying for the next round already. As she walked by with four more beers, she motioned that I could get the next one. Side note: German women can consume rather large amounts of beer in relativley small periods of time. We then split up, after doug and i had each bought the group another round, and set off to find some food and walk around. While walking we deduced that there was no place better to be in Germany than at this fair. Rides, bars, amazing food, and attractive girls could be found in abundance. I then convinced Doug to ride on the two craziest looking rides that could be found. These proved to be quite the thrill, and we departed to Alschstadt (city center/bar area) satisfied with our choice of staying in Dusseldorf.
