What happens in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam...hopefully!
Last week we went to the hospital and learned about MRI, PETscan, and saw a nuclear reactor. Then we went to see the cathedral in Cologne-that was AMAZING!! I love looking at old cathedrals and churches with steeples because they are so timeless. Supposedly the three wisemen are in a gold coffin there. Going up on top of the cathedral in the service elevator seemed shady but the view (and the breeze!) was amazing! Its funny to think we were walking on the roof of this cathedral that had been there for hundreds of years. After Cologne we got the weekend started on the train to Amsterdam. Finding our hotel was an interesting experience, but Becca had it on lockdown. Saturday we went on a 5 hour bike tour through the street and out into the country to a cheese farm where we learned how to make cheese and wooden clogs. It was such a beautiful day and the bike tour was indescribable. The Heineken Experience was next and I´m pretty sure I´ve never left a museum buzzed so it was fantastic in my book. By then we hadn´t eaten since breakfast so a bunch of us went into this Italian restaurant where Miss Kellie had another Heineken Experience...wink wink. Went through the Red Light District and I didn´t think it was as scary as people made it out to be. I just think if you walked through and didn`t pay attention to what people were saying it was okay. I don´t know, maybe I´ve been exposed to more in life than I think. Sunday we went to the Anne Frank house and when her best friend talked about throwing gifts over the concenctration camp fence it made me tear up-makes me worry about how I will react at the concentration camp. Then Kristen and I went to Van Gogh...let me tell you, it was AMAZING, thats it;) Got on the 7pm train back to Duesseldorf where I had a funny experience with the bartender, the German/American, and Endshuldigung in the handicapped bathroom. Pretty much, I think Americans have this grungy idea of how Amsterdam is, but its not. I LOVE IT THERE! Its so beautiful. It reminds me of Disneyland. I just wanted to get mint julips and ride around on those wooden boats in the canals. Its definately a place worth going back to for so many reasons...:)
