This past weekend Marga and I traveled to Dublin, Ireland for the weekend after our Nordeney excursion and it was incredible. I have visited Scotland before and the scenery was just as beautiful. Our very, very early flight from Dusseldorf meant that we had to get up before 4AM, which was not ideal, but after we made it through the disaster that was Dusseldorf secruty, we had finally made it! We spent our first day traveling to Howth and then took a much needed nap at our Airbnb. Howth is a little fishing village right next to Dublin that was gorgeous and we got some amazing fish 'n chips there. After an evening of good Irish food at a pub, we enjoyed a breathtaking walk along the river that goes through Dublin. The next day we had an amazing bus tour that took us to Kilkenny Castle, the Wicklow Mountains, and a sheep dog demonstration. The views were incredible and our guide was a hoot for sure! The evening ended with some more wonderful Irish pub food and a few pints. Our final day we found a great full Irish breakfast at Kilkenny Cafe and then found our way to the Guiness Storehouse for a tour.
All in all it was a whirlwind of a trip, but totally worth it. It was a nice break to experience a mainly English-speaking country, which was very welcome. And who can complain about an Irish accent?
Class continued for the rest of the week, but we ended out with a free day on Wednesday. Anna and I took advantage of the day off and went to the top of the Drachenfels, which is completely worth it! Go ahead and buy the ticket for the Drachenburg as well because that castle is too cool to miss and you get some incredible pictures of Bonn. Yesterday, we took a study tour to Bingen and Andernach which was a relaxing way to see two pretty cool museums and learn more about Dr. Wasser's favorite nun, Hildegard!
This past week has been pretty incredible and I am looking forward to traveling to Amsterdam this weekend.
