German Architecture

When looking around German cities such as Cologne, Bonn, Bornheim etc. You see a lot of what appear to be older looking buildings. In German cities from the 2nd floor to the roof is something you would see from either the 1950s or earlier than that. This is because Germans and Europeans in general do not tear down their old buildings instead repurposing them into new structures or just letting them stand.

The most interesting part about it is if you look at the first floor in a city it would look completely different. The entire first floor is completely redone to match the shop or restaurant that occupies that space. It stands out to me because in the U.S. you do not see that a lot you see shops in buildings match the design of the rest of the building, but not here in Germany. You would see would looks to be an apartment from the early 1900s and then have a McDonald's right below it with all the décor of a McDonald's restaurant. Just a very fascinating perspective.
