The first 48

I departed DFW and arrived in Frankfurt safely and luckily there were several of us on the same flight so we could navigate through the airport to the meeting spot. After waiting for the remainder of people to arrive, we got on the bus and headed to Bonn! We got to the old AiB and since our host mom wasn't there, her friend picked us up and took us to our new house for the next 5 weeks! Rosi, me and Nicole's host mom was on vacation in Holland so we stayed by ourselves until Friday night..this plus the heat and exhaustion worried us a lot.

The first night was very hot and the sun didn't set until nearly 11 pm. We walked down the Rhine after we settled in and had our first German beer at the Biergarten by our house. The next morning, Rosi's friend was supposed to pick us up and take us to the hauptbahnhof, but she forgot about us. It was so scary being alone in a city where we didn't speak the language and didn't know where anything was, not to mention it was very hot and we were SO tired. But Helen came to our rescue and sent two AiB student workers to take us to the new AiB. We had our orientation and our first Deutsch lesson with Hilde! After that we took our first tour of Bonn, which was kind of overwhelming, but they assured us that Bonn was a small city and easy to navigate(which we soon discovered was very true). After the tour, we went to get essentials like shampoo that we will need throughout the trip at the DM and got acclimated to our new environment. After that some of the group went back to the Biergarten on the Rhine where we got Kölch beer. Kölch is the beer for this region of Germany. After that we sat on the banks of the Rhine and watched the sunset. It was so beautiful.

This is the view from my window in Bonn!
