Four days in Norderney served me well. The Badehaus on the island was much needed. I had never experienced sauna nor mud baths, but it was one of the most relaxing and self-reflecting experiences. The high salinity pool took away all stress, worries, and anxieties, while the mud bath helped to sweat out all toxins and made me feel reborn. As Wasser and Becky G. say, “Baby, Break a Sweat,” and boy were they right.
Biking the island was unreal as we were able to fully tap into nature. The mud flat hike we took one night was amazing. To see the creatures living beneath your feet was astounding. Just being able to walk on a part of the ocean that four hours prior, or a few hours later, was covered by sea water was crazy! They say that you can walk the 15 km from the mainland to Norderney when the tide is at its lowest!
A group of us played soccer with a class of 30+ German kids and, I must say, they are a little better than us Americans. It was very neat to be able to connect with those kids over something and created a memory I will never forget.
8 of us travelled to the Netherlands for the weekend and experienced Anne Frank’s House, the Van Gogh Museum, a canal cruise, and the inner workings of the out-of-this-world city of Amsterdam. Amsterdam is unlike any city I have been to, and the only likeness I can give is that of Las Vegas. The Anne Frank House was a great reminder of past and put everything in perspective. The canal cruise showed much of the beautiful city and displayed the world-class architecture, leaning buildings, endless bridges, and fun-times Amsterdam has to offer.
The history and culture of Amsterdam are something I will marvel forever. This city was unreal and a bucket-list location, without a doubt.
Until Frankfurt,
Matthew
