So here I am two weeks into History of Medicine. Wow I am in love. I had never thought about visiting Vienna but I'm so grateful Dr. Wasser made it one of our excursions. The architecture of some of the bigger buildings reminded me of regent street in London, which I adore. We got to learn about the Josephinum which is a hospital turned museum. The wax collection was incredible. My favorite by far of the places we toured was the Narrenturm. I'm fascinated by diseases especially diseases in history. It was eye opening to see the realistic wax figures and their depictions of all the diseases throughout history.
On our afternoon off we stumbled upon the city hall which also led us to the parliament building and statue of Maria Teresa. The buildings were extravagant and hold so much history. This week was probably my top week so far. I loved all of us being in the same hotel and getting to bond over great food and drinks. These people are starting to become some of the best people I know.
After Vienna, I spent a weekend exploring Florence. I will somehow make sure I get to come back one day. Me and Joanna walked everywhere we went. Everyone was so kind and the food was to die for. We may have had pizza for every dinner and gelato everyday but calories don't count in Italy, right?
We walked the 414 steps of the bell tower and then many more steps to reach Piazzale Michaelangelo. The view was breathtaking and well worth the sweat and calf cramps. Overall, every city has exceeded my expectations and left me wanting more. It's time to start brainstorming that paper then Norderney next week. Ciao for now!
