Back from Brussels

For our third free weekend, I traveled with a group of eight others to Brussels in Belgium. We didn't actually know what was in Brussels to explore and didn't know much about the city beforehand, but everyone we talked to said that we had to have the waffles, the French fries, the chocolate, and the beer. So, it sounded like we'd be doing a lot of eating...

Upon arriving, we made our way through the ghetto of the city to of hostel, checked in, and made a journey into the city center to find waffles to sate our ravenous bellies. We found a highly rated restaurant that served what I believe are the finest waffles in the entire planet. It was everything we wanted, needed, and more. On top of that, the had Chimay!!!! Now, Dr. Wasser, if you read this I want to share this with you and whoever reads this, in fact. There is a monastery in the southern part of Belgium in Chimay, a band of Trappist monks that brews what may be the greatest beer in the world. It is a dark beer called Chimay Bleu, and there is nothing like it in the world. If God drinks beer, he drinks Chimay.

Moving on, we went and explored the center of the city, seeing a great number of parks, the government building, old palace, EU headquarters complete with soldiers with heavy assault rifles, and the Grand Place. The Grand Place is a beautiful city square surrounded by ornate buildings and the heavenly aroma of all the local chocolate shops. Truly, Brussels is the place to eat and be happy. Unfortunately, upon leaving Brussels we learned our departing train was completely cancelled, and we had to hop between train stations all over central Germany in order to arrive in Bonn before midnight. We made it, but were not in the best of moods.

This week, I greatly anticipate the island of Norderney (I think I spelled that right). Since I heard about in the informational, I thought it would be cool to go to this island in the north, and now I'm just a day away. Update of that trip will be posted shortly, I'm sure.
