Only one more full week in Bonn whaaaat?? // Week 4

Monday
This was an interesting day because today my group went to the hospital to shadow doctors as they performed their surgeries for the day. The main procedure I saw was a repair on a hernia. This was my first real surgery to observe, so I got a little nauseous from not eating much of a breakfast, but I'm still so thankful to have been given the opportunity. Although I'm not so sure surgery is really for me, I appreciate surgery and the advancements it has provided global health care as a whole.

Tuesday
This was a very chill day to say the least. We only had a few hours of class, and we didn't even have class until 2pm. It was our last class with Dr. Fajt. :( Dr. Fajt is such an amazing professor, and an awesome person in general. She kept the classroom engaged very well and I would've loved if she were able to be here for the entire program. The time we did have with her was well spent and I cannot wait to go visit her at her office back home at TAMU!

Wednesday
On this day, we had a normal morning of lecture, but we headed back to Cologne for the afternoon! My group went to the zoo this time. It was such a cool experience. My favorite part of the zoo was getting up close and personal with the cute elephants. The zoo keeper took us right up to the gates where they are fed. There were babies with their parents; it was so fun to interact with them. Also, not naming any names, but someone dropped their phone in the Meerkat exhibit and that was hilarious. Never forget. Shout out to Robert for coming to the rescue on that one.

Thursday & Friday
For these days, we were back in the classroom for two full days of lecture. Dr. Wasser really gets into his lectures and I think that is what makes it so easy to enjoy learning from him!

A Weekend in Interlaken, Switzerland
Our trip to Interlaken started off a little rough because our first train of the two trains we were taking there got cancelled. After taking a taxi to the other train station in Bonn and waiting for a while, we got it all figured out and we were able to take a train that left a little after 1am. Getting to Interlaken was smooth sailing after this. Switzerland is so beautiful. It is a place known for its lakes and breath-taking views. The first day, the main things we did were go to one of the lakes and we also went paragliding! The water in the lakes is crystal clear, so it reflects the blue sky so perfectly. At 3:30pm we were scheduled to take a car ride up the side of a mountain. Once on the mountain, our guides suited up and strapped us to the parachute. We got a running start, and then we were off. We ran straight off the side of the mountain. It was the most peaceful experience with views you just can't get any other way. The second day, the main thing we did was a hike. It was very strenuous, but the view from the top was totally worth it. Interlaken is the perfect getaway for those who want to be completely engulfed in the nature side of things in this European adventure.
