Week 2 Adventures

For my second week here in Germany, we spent the majority of the time on an excursion to Vienna. It has to be one of my favorite cities so far. The architecture and history of the whole city is breathtaking. We started our day off with a tour of Vienna. We learned about the history of the cities main buildings along with the specific history of disease and medicine of the area. We got to tour the Josephinum Museum, which was one of my favorite parts. It was founded in 1785 as a medical surgical academy by Emperor Joseph II who supported reforms in healthcare and the standardization of public health of his empire. In his tower, we were able to see his collection of medical specimens and learn about different ailments that plagued that area at different times throughout history.
One of the nights in the week, our group attended a classical concert in a beautiful cathedral. It was fun to hear classical music in that setting to be able to relate it to what we’ve been learning in class. We ended the night by going to a cool pub with Dr. Waltz and all bonding over a few drinks and snacks!

We ended the week by going to the Museum of Natural History which was located in a beautiful building surrounded by green gardens. In the museum, we got to see the famous “Venus von Willendorf” which is dated to be over 29,000 years old. We also got to see many different species of animals, as well as other ancient objects. From, the museum, we jetted off to spend the weekend in Prague! It was a week full of fun excursions.
