The free weekend possibilities seemed endless, with the option of trips to almost any part of Europe. Would it be Spain? London? Amsterdam? We deliberated and finally decided on Prague because we had heard how beautiful the city was and it's convenient proximity. After saying goodbye to Berlin, we somehow managed to navigate the train and city and settled into our hotel.
The second we stepped off the train it was quite apparent we were no longer in Germany. The station was almost empty, there were strange words everywhere, and English was not everyone's second language. Another big surprise was the use of the Koruna, which is roughly 20 per one US dollar. I never did get used to spending 100 Kc on a bottle of water.
Our first glimpse of the city the following day was of the Prague Castle along the river. It was as if I was walking in a postcard, minus the rain of course. We explored the old town shops and visited the Christmas market located in the square with the famous clock tower and the Church of Our Lady. The giant Christmas tree was lit across from a stage of traditional Czeck band, and the trdrlnik was so amazing I think we each ate two. We experienced the Prague nightlife and met people from Italy, Germany, Russia, and the good ole USA.
Prague is a city I will hopefully visit again and I wish we were able to spend more time there. However, I am thankful we were able to enjoy the town and get some rest. The Czech Republic did us well and I will never forget the memories we made!
