Our first free weekend in Munich!

Hello! I have just woken up from a 3-hour nap on our train ride from Munich to Vienna. Our weekend in Munich was our first time traveling around Europe by ourselves, and I must say we have learned to travel around pretty well in Munich.

On Saturday morning we left Bonn at 3:30, which felt like the worst idea ever when I came to the train stop in the dark and it was cold and scattered with homeless men. However we got to Munich around 9 am, and had a whole day to spend in the city. While some of our group went on a bike tour, I joined some others to lunch in the area and going on a free walking tour of the city. Though the tour was much longer than we had expected, I thoroughly enjoyed the tour guide’s many funny insights and stories about the town’s history and people. We then had dinner at an Augustiner, where most of us tried the Augustiner Edelstoff. We then went to the Hofbrauhaus to drink liters of beer, where we discovered some people’s low tolerance to alcohol. My biggest accomplishment from this night was stealing a liter mug from one of the bar’s windowsills and getting a free souvenir from the biggest beer city in the world. We went back to our hostel soon after that. Though the hostel had sucky internet and nasty-looking mattresses on the bunk bed, it was a decent enough place for us to stay for the weekend.

The next day, most of our group left early in the morning to catch a train to the castle, but I stayed in Munich with Alexis, Caleb, and Mikaela. It felt awesome being well rested for once. We wanted to walk around the main center and shop around for a bit, but found out that almost everything was closed on Sunday. We then decided to visit the BMW museum. Though it took us a while to figure out how to get there and we had to walk in the rain like depressed people, we finally arrived at our destination. We got to go inside the free museum and look at some of the new models of cars, then went home after the rain started pouring. Soon afterwards we went to Vapiano’s for dinner and waited for the other group to come back to the hostel. Everyone kind of just packed up and crashed after that. I spent a while in the lobby uploading pictures from Cologne and therefore was completely dead tired this morning.

Can’t wait to see what Vienna has in store for us this week!
