1st free weekend in Munich!

I'm now in Vienna, Austria! I'm really glad we get to travel so much on this study abroad =) Our entire group of 10 people decided to stay together for the 1st free weekend and we went to Munich together. We had to leave at 3:30am to catch our 6 hour train! (zzZzzZZzzz) but when we got there our group split into two groups to go on tours around the city. 5 of us went on a Mike's Bike Tour around the city and I was part of the other 5 that did a free walking tour with a very funny tour guide. I learned a lot about the German royalty and other fun facts about the city. It was also the Christopher Street parade that day in support of gay/lesbian rights which made the entire city more crazy crowded and super entertaining with live music and people walking around dressed strangely. It was really fun!

Later that afternoon when our group got back together we went to eat at an Augustiner restaurant where I ordered a really gross boiled beef breast thing but counter balanced the experience with one of the greatest beers I've had, and I usually don't like beer.... It was described as the one the Pope liked to drink! After that  we went to the Hofbrauhaus and had a really awesome "legit" German experience ^.^ There were loud groups of people eating giant plates of meat and singing while banging loudly on the tables!

The next day the group split again into two groups, one stayed in Munich and went to the BMW museum and I went with the other group to the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles! We took a train in the morning (that we were almost late for!) to Fussen; the cutest little town that seems to run off the tourism. We had a lucky experience again when the train when the ticket lady forgot to check Mario's Eurail pass (which he didn't have!). To tie up the lucky day we made it in time (without rush) to the only English speaking tour and were able to talk the manager into allowing Sarah to join our group even after it was full! The whole experience was truly amazing. I was so surprised that people lived in castles like that even recently. I keep thinking castles only existed like that during the Mid-evil times but this one had a working telephone supposedly! Although the walking was a real trek.... it was very much worth it and it was one of the many things I really wanted to do on this trip.

Now its time to have new adventures in Austria!
