After an extremely long flight and then a bus ride, we finally arrived in Bonn! Carrie and I met our host family right away and were given a tour of their lovely home.
Sunday morning I woke up at 8 am to go to Cologne with Carrie and James. It was 1 am back home, and thats about what my body clock was set to, unfortunately. We arrived in Cologne and went to the Kölner Dom for Sunday mass. The building was absolutely beautiful. The outside was amazing detailed with gargoyles and other things. It had some construction platforms way up high, and James said that it is always under renovation. Inside, the stained glass was beautiful. Mass was interesting because for one, I'm not Catholic, and for two, the whole thing was in German. It was amazing none the less though. They had a choir of about 200 girls and the way their voices echoed off the walls was impeccable. They also had an organ way up high that was beautiful both to look at and to listen to.
After mass, we walked around the streets of Cologne. We came across the parade for the Christopher Street Day celebration. If you don't know what that is, it is essentially Germany's Gay Pride Parade. The costumes, floats, music, and atmosphere were unique. It was a culture shock of the most unexpected kind to say the least.

Weekend 1 - Bonn and Cologne
After lunch at home, Carrie, James and I went about downtown Bonn. We had just come outside from visiting a church there when we came across some students from the program exploring on their own. James took us all on a little walking tour down the Rhine and it was beautiful. We got ice cream (straciatella!) and sat down at a local Biergarten. We also learned a little bit about the bus/train system, since we have transportation passes and have to use them to get to and from AIB.
I am apparently still jet-lagged so I hope to get to bed soon! First day of class tomorrow!
