These are a few of my favorite things!

The Sound of Music has always been one of my favorite movies. The classic tale of a young nun put in charge of a family of children who grows to find her true calling from God. This movie based on the Von Trapp family's true story has everything from humor to the historical oppression of the Nazi regime all told through timeless songs.

A rainy day was not my preferenced forecast but a few raindrops and cold wind was not going to prevent me from enjoying the official Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg, Austria. We were picked up from our hostel by a huge tour bus decorated on all sides with Maria and the children. Once we were on our way, the tour guide gave us information about Salzburg along with information about the movie. The bus stopped at various famous sites from the movie.

Leopoldskron Lake

This is the lake where the children and Maria fall out of the boat. The interesting things is this lake was used as the backyard of the Von Trapp house, but the house located by the lake wasn't used! Another location was used as their house. We also saw the trees in which the children were climbing when their father was arriving home. However, the branches were too high for us to climb.

Gazebo

The famous "I am 16 going on 17" gazebo was moved from its original location to a garden area. While the exterior of the gazebo was used, a Hollywood sound stage was the site of the famous song scene. Slightly disappointing to learn...

Frohnburg Castle

We took a quick drive by of the wall Maria passes while singing Confidence and the exterior of the house used. The house today is the Mozarteum Music Academy.

Monsee Church

After a beautiful ride through the Austrian country side and mountains, we arrived in the town of Monsee. The beautiful scene of Maria and the Captain's wedding was filmed in the Monsee Church. We were free to visit the church and enjoy the town of Monsee.

The Do Re Mi Garden

The images from the Do Re Mi scene of the children running through the garden was filmed at Mirabell Square. This is where the tour ended so we were free to take as many pictures as we wanted and have many "Maria" moments!
