The next day I was surprised to see what life was like inside a northern Germans home (though I am sure they widely vary). Strangely, my friend only ate breakfast (which was almost always a piece of toast covered in nutella or butter or both!) and supper (which was a large meal). On this Saturday we made our way into the city and walked around the harbor! The place I most wanted to see! One of the 2 main highlights that I saw was a Russian submarine exhibit! It was very cool to see it and I kinda wish I would had paid the 6 euros to go in (but I got photos)
However, this was not a WW2 U boat so I did not think it would be worth it to go in! ...........................................Now for the highlight! I did plenty of research into this and finally was able to see it. For the longest time I wanted to see anything relating or to do with the Bismarck Battleship and this day I was able to see where it was build and in particular christened and slid into the harbor out of dry dock.
Just think how in this location about 70 years ago a ship of military pride an ambition was set out into the water by Adolf Hitler and many other high ranking officials to lead to one of the most epic history stories that one can find. It was so breathtaking to look here and know that from this point this chain of evens took place! I look forward to in the future when I can go off and see the rudder fan of Bismarck's escort Prinz Eugen in a small city around Kiel! It is at a large memorial for those who died at sea during war..... Finally we Finished off the day traveling to the Innenstadt to see the main buildings! It was very pretty in the innenstadt and we were able to get a Hamburger in Hamburg! It was Lecker and I will always remember it!
Lastly we went home and I had the Best Wiener Schnitzel of mine life! Who knew you could stuff it with ham and cheese! This day was my first time in Europa that I felt "zat" (If I spelled it right).... Basically I felt very full of food for the first time in Europa. I told this to the mother in German and she cryed a little and felt honored actually that she was able to do this!
Anyway, Sunday was a bit less event full as we went to a soccer game and a carnival before bed. I had a lot of fun in Hamburg even though I did not get to truly experience the city! It was worth every penny and second to spend time with my friends family and talk! best weekend of this entire trip! Ich Liebe Hamburg! (Oh and I learned a decent amount of German while I was there! )
