Prague
Like most of the places we have visited so far, I was not
really sure what to expect from the city of Prague. I knew that the St. Charles
bridge was the main attraction there and that it was quite a large city but
other than that I went into the trip relatively blind. After what seemed like a
10 hour train ride we finally made it to the Prague main station. Our first
mistake was exchanging euros for Czech Crowns, which luckily most of us only
exchanged a few at a very poor rate just to buy our public transportation pass.
We stayed at the Charles Bridge economic hostel and the manager of the hostel
was extremely nice. He told us where to go out, the best places to get money,
and the best restaurants. We didn’t get checked into the hostel until after 9 so
we quickly changed clothes and went to a restaurant that was recommended to us
that was along the Vltava river. I have only had Goulash a couple times, but
this was by far the best I have had and cheap too! After dinner we just did
some walking around, trying to get our bearings for the city. When I first
walked over the bridge, I could not believe all the detail that went into it
and also how long it was. Even at night there were tons of people on it along
with musicians and street vendors. We found a bar that was underground in an
old cellar that we really enjoyed and it was nice and cool down there so that
made it even better. The next day went to the castle of Prague which is also a
big tourist attraction and is really neat. The castle is on top of a hill on
the old side of town and after we walked a small mountain to get to the top,
the view was magnificent. From the castle you could see as far as the eye can
see and the entire city is laid out below you. The wall was cool because you
could actually go up to it and peer out of shooting windows that were used to
protect the castle.
Although
Prague was a very short trip, I am very glad that we went there and it is very
possible that I will go back there on the long weekend to visit more of the
city that we did not get to. It was one of the prettiest cities that I have
been to so far. Looking over the bridge down the river at night at all the
lights was a sight that will be in my mind for a long time.
