Free Weekend- Munich / Hannover

4 January 2012, Day 9

Our free weekend begin at around 5 pm. The Munich Crew ( Patrick, Sam, Monica, Max, Tyler, Leo , and myself ) caught a train leaving Berlin a few minutes before 6 pm. We had a 7 hour train ride, which put us in Munich a few minutes before 1 am. We then had to find our hotel. That was a disaster. The last bus to our hotel quit running a few minutes before our train arrived. We asked a Taxi how long, they said about 10 mins. We assumed they meant by foot. Unfortunately, it was not a 10 minute walk. We walked in the rain for about 1 hour or more. After this trip to Europe it is safe to say  don't "assume" anything. We made it to the hotel, and stayed up to check the score of the Cotton Bowl that was taking place in 'Merica. Way to go AGGIES you ended the bad day on a good note with a win against those Sooners.

5 January, 2012, Day 10

Today began with an adventure. Upon leaving the hotel for our outings,  Max discovered he lost his wallet. This put the whole group in a panic. We had to re-live the nights events of getting to the hotel. Luckily the first store we checked had found a wallet and called the police to turn it in. We then had to find the "Polizei " to pick up the wallet. After retrieving it we headed to Dachau to take in some history. We toured what was left of the facilities. This included the crematorium, barrack area, and a museum. We spent about 3-4 hours there and still didn't get the chance to read all the information on display. After Dachau we headed to the Hofbrauhaus and Augustiner Keller, two of the traditional brewhouses. We all were traditional and drank the bavaria brew in the huge glasses. After the Brewhouses, we went to several places looking for a place to dance. We visited several places. ( Sausalitos, P1, Havana Club, Pascha, and the Ruby ) The Ruby was the best club. They had great music and good drinks. Monica and I stuck together and got back to the hotel at about 3.

6 January 2012, Day 11

Today was our last day in Munich. We finally got to sleep in! For lunched we dined on some delicious pizza. Following lunch we split off. Monica and I went back to the train station to attempt to find Monica new luggage. Patrick, Sam, Max, and Tyler did some adventuring and exploring. Thank goodness a place had luggage in the train station, because Monica’s bag was on it’s last leg. Unfortunately, the new luggage was a bit smaller, so it took two of us to close it. We then shopped around for souvenirs, and spent time just chit chatting in the coffee shop. Our train left for Hannover a few minutes before 6 p.m.. It was a 4 hour ride so we arrived in Hannover at about 10 p.m.. Everyone else had already made it to the Haus Martens. We checked in, discussed the plan for the next day, and I hit the sheets.

7 January 2012, Day 12

Today we met with one of Dr. Wasser’s many acquaintances. He was a kidney specialist. Unfortunately I missed this blurb because I was experiencing german healthcare firsthand. I had been having a lot of problems with my ankle I had previously had surgery on, so I felt that I needed to see a doctor. I had a very nice, English speaking professional, as well as 2 very cute Brazilian interns. They listened to what I had to say and assessed my ankle. He ordered 2 x-rays to make sure my screws were still in place. They have not come out of place thank goodness. Unfortunately, they believe I have re-torn the tendons I just repaired 8 months ago. After the kidney specialist we went to the zoo. We were only able to see certain animals due to weather conditions. One thing that really amazed me, was their was of setting up the animals habitats. From a quick glance you would think the lion, giraffe, zebras, and other small animals all co-exist together. However, that is deceiving to the eye. Upon closer inspection, the lions are distanced far enough away to not allow the lions to attack the other furry friends. Two of the best animals were the polar bear and the large pack of timber wolves. Just because we aren’t really able to see those in Texas, or at least at the zoos I have toured in our area.

8 January 2012, Day 13

We returned to the hospital and met with a very famous heart surgeon. He showed us the various devices and answered our every question. Later that evening we caught our flight to Vienna.
