Our Short Stay in Vienna!

I was nervous about traveling to Vienna at first, mostly because it was the first program trip that required all of my luggage. But I was pleasantly surprised in how smoothly everything went! While the scenery of Austria still had a European vibe, it presented itself in a very different way than Bonn. For starters the amount of people never came close to the amount in Bonn. Also I noticed a much more prominent older population, although it could just be the area we were staying in. Everything seemed to move at slower pace,  bit more relaxed. But I guess no matter how relaxed a city is the subway doors still close just as fast! The subway system was the bomb dot com. I haven’t gotten a chance to use the one in Bonn, but the simplicity of the Vienna’s transportation made the trip way less stressful and easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Vienna also felt cleaner somehow, most likely due to the lack of people.

The Josephinum and the Pathology Museum came in a close tie for the win. The win being the exhibit that intrigued me the most. I think Pathology would have came in first by a smidgen if the texts on the bottom floor rooms had been in English. But regardless they both gave me insight on the different time periods.

From the detail and accuracy of the wax models one could consider the creation process an art form. Aside from the shock of wax model process and the actual amount of them present in the Josephinum, I enjoyed learning that people of the 18th century were so interested in knowledge of the human body. I was really upset to hear the library was so difficult to access. I would have loved to spend some time there.

The Museum of Pathology was the perfect mix of creepy and interesting. Cool but disturbing. A ying and yang if you will; how appropriate that both form a circle.

I really liked that I was  introduced to a lot of new concepts, diseases, mutations, etc. These exhibits made a pretty rad link between the endless occurrence of human imperfections and old fables and riddles. Suddenly the creation of monsters and cyclops stories all made sense.

Free time was super! We managed trips to the Schonbrunn Palace, an amusement park with rollercoasters, the Haus der Musik, and a street market with food and clothes. All around a great four day venture!
