The Walk Along the Mud

The time spent in Bonn was extremely short but very much needed after the long travelling from Prague some well deserve Rest and Relaxation.  At the midway point of our week we will be travelling up north to Hannover and then to the Mud Walk in Fusien Island at the end of the week.  This week has certainly been one of the more busier weeks as far as travelling from Bonn to Hannover to Emden to port to a ferry to reach the island if it wasn’t for the fact that ive gotten use to so much changing of transportation of trains, buses, and trams this would have driven me insane but it all went rather well.  Upon our arrival in Emden we went to one of the local fish restaurant we all sat down together for a nice dinner and we began chatting with some of the locals that own the shop.  They were very kind and very open to speak with a bunch of strangers showing up at their restaurant one of the older gentlemen that was there in the restaurant and I guess I made a good impression on him that he gave me a little souvenir to remember them by free of charge.   We went to the clinic in Hannover were we went to see some truly interesting research going, the understanding of Axolotl and its ability of regeneration of limbs and along with the spiders ability to create super strong silk. The next day we went to go catch our ferry to reach the island of Nordeney along the boat ride we saw some of the local wildlife that is a popular tourist attraction, the fur seals.  Upon reaching the island we got on our bus to reach the grounds were we would meet our guide.   Once we met our guide we proceeded with our walk through the mud but along the way we observe some unique features of this extraordinary environment.  My first note that I took was the excessive amount of rabbit tunnels and dropping the guide mention that they are no predators for the rabbits due to any predators present on the island would decimate the large number of migratory nest that occur here as a result no predators have been introduce into the island to take care of the rabbits but at the benefits of the migratory birds.  The guide informed us of the large number of invertebrates that exist on the islands as a “meat buffet” for the migratory bird’s mussels, oysters, snails, crabs, and flat worms and by the sheer number of flat worm droppings and leftover mussel’s shells.  The guide also illustrated the differences different portions of the mud flats, from sort of dry mud, to cool refreshing mud that you sank 15 inches deep.  Amongst this natural beauty was a little sense of danger and it’s something that naturally occurs on the island, fog.  The guide mention how easy it to get lost in the mud walk during the fog so he had us have a little battle of the sexes where the two boys represented the male gender and two of our 8 girls represent the female gender to my surprise and to joy of the guide the boys won.  One thing they mentioned about the island and is something we noted very suttle during our walk was the freshness of the environment, the island has a tax on the air as soon as you get on but I guess it makes sense it was very refreshing to be on the island.  After our little adventure of the island we went to go visit the clinic present on the island which specializes on treating chronic disease but the use of therapy sessions using the natural healing ability of the as part of the treatment.
