Well, another week is almost over. I get a little sad when I write these posts because I realize the end of the trip is getting closer. The past week has been eventful to say the least. Over the weekend, I went to Paris with a group of about 10 other people. In Paris we visited the Louvre and went to a rave at the Palace of Versailles. The Louvre was incredible. Seeing so many beautiful and historical art pieces was so interesting. We saw artifacts that were thousands of years old and it sparked so much curiosity about history. We only had a few hours there, so I really hope to go back one day in the future. We also got to eat a nice lunch and everyone tried escargot for the first time… a little rubbery, but not bad. Saturday night was the rave. When we first got there, I was in awe of the palace and the gardens. It was beautiful. The concert was so much fun and I’m really glad I went, because originally I was a little nervous about the whole thing. Sunday, we traveled back to Bonn and then Monday left for Norderney.
Our four days in Norderney were some of my favorite days of the trip so far. The trip started off a bit rocky with a windy and quite terrifying bike ride. I never actually fell off the bike, but did run into a couple things and stop very abruptly several times. I was a little embarrassed at my poor biking skills, but luckily I improved a lot over the rest of the week thanks to the patience of Alexa and Dr. Wasser. I plan to practice biking more when I’m back home so I feel more comfortable with it. The trip to the badehaus was definitely my favorite activity in Norderney. Learning about the history of Thalasso was so interesting and then getting to actually try it for myself just made the experience even better. I think it’s awesome that doctors in Germany will actually send their patients to stay in Norderney as part of their treatment. I felt like a new person after leaving the badehaus, and I even went back on Wednesday night after the mud flat hike. The mud flat hike was also a really cool experience, even though the weather wasn’t the greatest. I was convinced I would die on the bike ride back to the hostel in the rain, but I made it back alive and in one piece! I also really enjoyed the group barbecue. Having the whole group together in one place was really fun since it doesn’t really happen in Bonn other than for class. The island of Norderney is a really special place and I’m so glad we got to visit as part of this program. Right now I’m on the train back to Bonn and I leave for Rome in the morning! I’m feeling recharged after this week and ready for the next three weeks of adventure.
