I can't believe its been almost two weeks since we arrived in Germany!! I've seen so much and learned more than I ever have on a trip. Yesterday, I went to the vet med school and got to tour around the campus. The prof who led our tour was friendly and showed us some of the school's collection of skeletons and fixed organs. The two German students that showed us around were cool and explained to us that in Germany you only have to go to vet school for about 5 or so years instead of our 8 which includes our undergraduate work. We were fortunate enough to have a vet that was working in the cattle clinic show us around and explain what a "DA" was. A DA is a displaced abomassum, which is the "true stomach" of the cow. We took a break and had coffee with Steffie before watching a surgery of a DA with our German tour guides. It was a fun filled day. Just being in the clinic got me all excited about becoming a vet!
Today we went to the animal research center. I never realized how many rats and mice were used in research. It was neat to get to walk through all of the operating rooms. The coolest thing to me was seeing the rats that lived in a germ free environment. Its amazing what the doctors are doing at this facility! They preform lung transplants and valve replacements. Not to forget the project with cats that involved placing beads with proteins in the brains for biochemical balance.
glad for clean laundry!
