Dresden
On Tuesday we hopped on the train to Dresden. I really enjoyed our tour of Dresden. We had a tour guide named Carol who was sweet and well prepared. The feel of Dresden reminded me of Prague. There was a very modern section, but a lot of the city was rebuilt after the bombings to recapture the old feel. We learned a lot of interesting history. A unique feature to Dresden was the exotic indoor gardens the rulers had. They enjoyed exotic fruits of all sorts, including orange trees, but due to the frigid temperatures it was difficult to maintain them. So the trees and plants were kept inside a relatively temperature controlled room. Another feature of Dresden was its exotic tobacco tower. They supposedly make all kinds of exotic cigarettes and cigars. I wished we had an opportunity to visit, but time wasn’t on our side. One of the saddest points of the tour was seeing how much war had devastated the beautiful city. So much history and beauty in architecture destroyed. It blows my mind how much war destroys. We ended the tour and had lunch at a very nice restaurant. I had a bowl of lentil soup which hit the spot and finished Kate’s spinach which was stinkin’ sweet. Thanks AIB!
